The Enemy Wants Your Voice—Here’s Why

Feeling blocked when you pray or speak? Do you struggle to recall Scripture when you pray, lose your train of thought mid-sentence, or feel hindered when it is time to deliver an important message?
It has happened to me, too. The words are right there, yet you cannot release them. What is going on?
Are you losing focus? Suffering from a vitamin deficiency?
No. You do not have a medical condition. You are under attack.
Recently, I had a dream in which I saw myself and the enemy—appearing as a man. He had his hand deep in my mouth. I could not speak, quote Scripture, or rebuke. All I could do was look up to heaven—then I sensed a powerful intervention as the Lord dealt with that wicked, demonic attack. In this post, I want to share why the enemy fights so hard to steal your voice and how you can get it back and keep it.
Why the Enemy Tries to Steal Your Voice
Why does the enemy work overtime to steal, muzzle, and hinder your voice? The short answer is, your words carry spiritual authority and the enemy knows it.
Here is proof: In the book of Mark, chapter 11, verses 12-14, Jesus sees a fig tree in the distance. “He went to see if He would find anything on it. But He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.” But Jesus said to the fig tree, “No one will ever eat fruit from you again!” Then, in verse twenty it says, “In the morning, as they were passing by, the disciples saw that the fig tree had withered away from the roots up.” (AMP)
Why am I sharing this scripture? Because this scripture demonstrates Jesus’ authority. And His authority is the key to your authority. It is a direct link to why the enemy wants to steal your voice. Let us continue to read Mark 11, starting at verse twenty-one, to get to Jesus’ power statement.
21 And remembering, Peter said to Him, “Rabbi (Master), look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered!” 22 Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. 23 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and [c]does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. 24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you. (AMP)
What is the takeaway?
“…whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.”
This is a powerful truth—and the devil knows it. When you begin to say what God says in faith, you rise in authority—the authority Jesus has given to you. The result? Circumstances must bow in obedience to His word. But if the enemy can steal your voice, you cannot exercise your authority through Christ.
Take Your Power Back!
So how can you guard your voice and stay rooted in authority when you pray and speak? Here are three practical ways to stop the enemy’s interference.
#1. Ramp Up Your faith!
Faith is the key to your salvation. It is also the key to your life in Christ. In fact, “without faith it is impossible to please God.” (Hebrews 11:6, CSB) Without faith you have no fellowship with Him. Faith must run through your spiritual veins. If, however, you are struggling in your faith, ask God to help you. In Mark 9:24, a father asks Jesus to “help [me overcome] my unbelief.” (AMP)
Today, Christians face the same faith challenges. And every trial requires another infilling. So, how do you build your faith? Study scriptures on faith. Listen to testimonies of overcomers. Read books about generals of faith. Stay around people of faith. Disconnect from negativity, self-pity, gossip, pride, venting, discouragement, and the like. Instead, read about the heroes of faith in the book of Hebrews. Remember, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17, NKJV) When you immerse yourself in the word of God, your faith will increase exponentially.
#2. Pray Effectively
Before you pray, ask the Lord what you should pray about. Then, ask for specific scriptures to anchor or support your prayer. Scriptures are bathed in God’s authority. So, when you pray His word, you pray the perfect will of God.
When selecting scriptures, ensure you understand the context. In other words, do not use the wrong scripture, assume its meaning, or quote it out of context. You do not want to pray amiss. (James 4:3). Aim to pray accurately to increase your effectiveness. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you and your tongue. You must pray the will of God—how else will you receive what you ask for?
#3. Be Sober-Minded
Do not be ignorant of the enemy’s devices or strategies. (2 Corinthians 2:11) If you feel hindered or muzzled when you get ready to speak, do not panic. Seek God’s peace in your heart. Pray in your spirit. Take authority, then, slowly, and intentionally, release what God has given you. Do it with confidence and boldness. It may feel like a challenge at first, but with practice, it will flow.
When you are “attacked,” take note. Recognize the form of the attack, its timing, and agenda. Similarly, acknowledge how God is moving. This intel will increase your authority.
Do Not Live in Silence Anymore
Radiant Warrior, this is not the time to be silent. In fact, it is time to amplify your voice. At the beginning of this post, I asked if you ever feel blocked when you pray or speak, struggle to recall scripture,
lose your train of thought mid-sentence, or feel hindered when it is time to deliver an important message. I have been there, too—and in that dream, when the enemy’s hand was deep in my mouth, I saw clearly: this is not random; it is warfare.
A muzzle is not trendy attire; it is what the enemy uses to quiet a voice God anointed. But God did not rescue you just to leave you muted—He delivered you so you could speak His Word with faith and authority. Remember the fig tree: Jesus spoke, and it bowed at the sound of His voice. So, I will ask you again—what situations will bow in your life when you open your mouth, release your voice, and say what God says?
